Rangers gaffer Ally McCoist has revealed there is a healthy respect between himself and Celtic counterpart Neil Lennon. The pair famously clashed last season when McCoist was still assistant manager at Rangers.

McCoist said that was just heat of the moment though and there is actually a healthy respect between the pair. Lennon and McCoist shared a drink together after the 1-0 defeat to Celtic on Wednesday.

This was after the pair had also shook hands and had a private word with each other at the final whistle. McCoist would not state what was said at the final whistle but did say that there is respect there.

McCoist said: ‘I wouldn’t divulge what was said but I would like to think that we have a healthy respect for each other and the job that the other one is trying to do, we are both relatively new Old Firm managers but, since both clubs were formed, there has been, there has to be and hopefully always will be, a healthy respect for each other.

The Rangers manager concluded: ‘Neil and I sat after the game, just the two of us, and had a bottle of beer and spoke about the game and spoke about other things. It was good and it was refreshing.’
