Rangers avoided another potential banana skin tonight by comfortably taking the victory over Albion Rovers in the Scottish Cup quarter final replay.

Goals from Fraser Aird inside of the first 20 minutes, followed up by another Jon Daly goal just before the hour mark was enough to consign Albion to defeat at the second time of asking, but credit must go to them as although we were comfortable and although they had few chances to affect the score line, it was certainly a battle and they didn’t lie down which nobody expected them to do anyway.

Rangers are now through to the Semi Final of the Cup and we will face Dundee United at Ibrox on April 12.

Speaking to the Official Site following the game, the gaffer explained.

‘I thought once we got the first goal we were comfortable. We can play better, of course we can, and I think it was there for all to see that when we got our second goal we certainly didn’t go and put them under enough pressure when we were looking for more goals. But the main thing is we’re through and we have a semi final tie against Dundee United at Ibrox. On top of that we’ve won the championship and we’ve kept a clean sheet against Dunfermline, so it’s been a great week.’

McCoist goes on to credit the way that both goal scorers took their chances, but he says he was always confident that we would create enough opportunities for the game to swing our way over the course of 90 minutes as he also knew the players had something to prove following the original quarter final and how that played out.

There was also praise again for Calum Gallagher who got another run out, and McCoist credited the coaches at our youth levels for helping to produce players like him, and he was pleased to see him take the chance again to impress as it bodes well for the future, also commenting that hopefully we’ll have a new contract for the lad sorted out soon.
