Manager Ally McCoist had admitted that Rangers were again not at our best when we took three points from Ayr United yesterday.

A two one victory with a brace from defender Bilel Mohsni kept our run going in the league and gave us another three points this season, but speaking to the Official Site following the game, the gaffer admitted that we again didn’t live up to the standards we were showing earlier in the season, nor the standards we showed in the Stenhousemuir game

‘We’re looking for a level of performance from our lads every week and we got it on Saturday, but didn’t get it tonight. But I have to say they’ve found a way to win a game again and that is a great habit to get into.’

McCoist goes on to say that of course in our history we’ve had some ‘great teams’ who have also struggled to play well at points, but having that winning knack when things aren’t going your way is a very good foundation to have, especially in our position as we are trying to grow the club back into the SPL.

‘But you guys know as well as I do that we didn’t play as well tonight as we can but we are delighted to have now won 32 of our 34 league games with two draws. That’s not too shabby so we’re pleased with that.’

Rangers had to take the lead twice in the match, and McCoist admitted that he was very disappointed with their equaliser, describing it as being a very ‘poor one’ that he felt was totally our of character for the team.

‘I was disappointed with it actually because we lost a similar one up at Brechin at the start of the season. It’s a schoolboy goal to lose and I was very disappointed with it. We have to eliminate silly errors like that but with the greatest of respect, it’s not something we’ve been doing. I think that was only the 17th league goal we have lost this year.’

Inspite of that McCoist admits that it’s something we have to work on because it is cropping up every now and then, and he’d rather eradicate it completely.

As for the goal scorer Mohsni, McCoist again admitted the hardest thing with the defender is keeping him calm because of his passion, but he can’t fault what he brings to the team

‘He’s a box of tricks is our Bilel, that’s for sure. He’s come up with some very important goals for us and we have to be thankful for that. It’s a fantastic return we’ve had from him for a centre back and we knew he was capable of scoring goals.’
