Manager Stuart McCall couldn’t praise the players enough following the two one victory over Hearts in our Easter Fixture.

Goals from Kenny Miller and on loan Newcastle striker Haris Vuckic gave us the first half two nil lead, and despite Hearts getting themselves a goal in the second period very late on in the game, it was nothing more than a consolation.

Speaking to the Official Site following the game, McCall said he couldn’t be more proud of the entire team.

‘I’m pleased with so many parts of the game. The way we started, the way we stopped them playing, the quality of the two goals, the performance in the first half, good tempo, good football, strong defending, team work. The second half was about guts, desire, commitment, togetherness so, as you imagine, I’m very proud.’

McCall went on to say that the game was probably epitomised by the fact that the players came off to real applause for probably the first time ‘in a long time’ and it was fully merited and the crowd themselves acknowledged that we showed both quality but also grit and determination to get the result.

‘It was nice to see the supporters get what they deserved and nice to see them happy. There is still a long, long way to go but what it does is keep the momentum going.’

As for the game largely changing at half time as Hearts responded, McCall said he couldn’t be too concerned with that when you factor in the circumstances.

‘As a manager, or a supporter or anyone connected with football, you think you are, not on easy street but you are going in at half time 2-0 up thinking ‘ok we can work on certain things`, and then the red card comes and we all know what happened at Tynecastle when we went down to ten men. We lost a grip of the game but for all their possession – and we knew they would have a lot of possession – we still managed to create a lot of chances in the second half and looked a bit of a threat on the counter. But we were not playing an ordinary side. We were playing against a Hearts team that is young, energetic and they can move the ball quick. They had won nine on the bounce so it was a terrific, wholehearted display which merited the three points.’
