Rangers Word On The Tweet

‘Massively undervalued’, ‘Get a grip’ – Many Rangers fans say no to eight-figure fee for star

Rangers fans do not want to sell captain James Tavernier this January, after rumours he could soon be the subject of a £7m bid from England.

RockSport journalist Bill Young sparked speculation on Twitter earlier today when he suggested that the right-back could soon be for the off in a big money move.

While not exactly confirmed news, Young has been right about certain Rangers stories in the past so it can’t be a rumour that is wholly dismissed.

Tavernier has received criticism from some fans this season for perceived underwhelming performances, but won everyone around just before the winter break with a wonderful display against Celtic.

I have to be honest, £7m seems like a tempting offer to me. If we are to ever sell him I’m not sure we’d ever get much more.

However, now is not the time to sell. Mid-season we need to keep all our top players regardless of interest. The time to sell and rebuild is in the summer, not January.

Even if the fund were reinvested in the team, letting Tavernier’s dressing room influence disappear in the middle of a title race could be a critical mistake.

Plenty of supporters are hoping the club don’t bite on any offers before the end of the month, taking to Twitter to share their thoughts…
