Quoted by the Edinburgh News, Hibernian boss Paul Heckingbottom has explained the ins and outs that have seen Glenn Middleton join the club on loan from Rangers.

Of course, last time out in the league the Gers hammered Hibs 6-1 but Middleton has seemed set for a move away from our club for some time.

Indeed, it looked as though he would go to Holland but he has instead ended up at last weekend’s opponents and hopefully he can have a positive impact there.

And, that in mind, Heckingbottom revealed how things changed:

“There was a deal virtually agreed for him to go to Holland, but when we knew the severity of Martin’s injury and that he needed surgery, we spoke to Glenn’s agent and Steven at Rangers.

“We spoke to Glenn and he was very positive about the club and being here. I don’t think it was the easy option to stay here rather than Holland, but a good opportunity to play here in the same league as his parent club and a chance to impress.”

As one of our rivals, we never want to see them do that well, of course, but Glenn is a good young player with plenty to offer in the years to come and he needs the minutes.

Personally, it’s a little surprising he’s not been given a chance for this season at Ibrox but we’ve made several signings in his position and so it perhaps makes sense for him to move.
