Manager of attacking talent comments on potential move to Rangers this summer

|

Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes has discussed the future of on-loan talent Greg Stewart amidst speculation he could be on the verge of joining up with Steven Gerrard’s Rangers, as reported by The Scottish Sun.

During the week, Stewart was reported to be in discussions with the recruitment team at Ibrox ahead of a potential pre-contract deal, with his current contract at parent club Birmingham City expiring at the end of the season.

McInnes though is still holding out hope he can convince the player his future lies at Pittodrie.

As quoted by The Scottish Sun, the Dons boss said:

If there was a chance to keep Greg then I would be doing my best to keep him.

We felt in January, speaking to him and his agent, that they wanted to look at options.

It’s no surprise his agent has been speaking to clubs, there’s a lot of clubs that would recognise Greg’s talent.

When you saw him come on the other night [against Motherwell] he helped game go our way with his quality.

The 29-year-old was on fire in the Scottish Premiership in the first half of the season, scoring eight goals and assisting seven more times on loan at Kilmarnock.

Since returning to Aberdeen for a second spell in January though his form has faltered somewhat.

If given the opportunity to work with more talented players at Ibrox though he could prove to be a very effective attacking talent indeed, potentially providing that ‘number 10’ link between midfield and attack we desperately need.

With the ability to also play on the flanks, there are number of upsides to his signing, especially on a free transfer.
