Manager Ally McCoist has said he was a very happy man indeed when the transfer window for January slammed shut.

The obvious worry was left back Lee Wallace, who had already been subject to two bids from Championship side Nottingham Forest, but they didn’t return with a third offer and nor did any other club come in for him anyway, so nobody really had a decision to make late in the day.

Speaking to the Official Site McCoist however couldn’t help but joke that he had Wallace locked in his cellar, and he only let him out once the 11pm deadline had past.

‘Lee’s been a fantastic player for us and the good news is he is going to continue to be a fantastic player for us. We’re genuinely thrilled that he’s pledged his future to the club.’

McCoist went on to say that he was in regular contact on deadline day with Chief Executive Graham Wallace, and even joked that he had commented ahead of the game against Brechin that the manager more relieved and relaxed that he had done all month.

Of course Rangers were unable to add anybody to our ranks as the window closed, but if you can’t strengthen given the financial issues at the club, the very best next thing is not to have the squad weakened or unsettled by late bids.

So on that score the gaffer was delighted.
