Tom Lawrence was busy for Rangers against Livingston but he is likely to admit that he didn’t shine as much as he is capable of.

Far from it, but given the poor first half team effort, the pattern of the game and the dreaded plastic surface at Almondvale, the former Derby captain and his teammates will be glad just to take the three points and move on.

A new challenge awaits in Belgium on Tuesday but reflecting on his competitive debut, the Welshman stated that the win required plenty of effort as told to Rangers TV:

“It was a tough game. We knew that before the game and then to concede so early on it was disappointing but then the second half showed the character and resilience of the boys.”

He added on the qualities of the squad,

“Yes, I think you can see that with the subs that came on today. They have helped us win the game. We are a tight group and they have welcomed me really well. We just need to keep winning now.”

Indication

With his willingness to drive forward and have a pop at the target, we were provided with glimpses of what Lawrence’s game is about.

He is also able to get physical when required so already it looks like very good business to seal the free transfer as well as a compatible match going forward.

In the coming weeks and particularly in the European games, there will be plenty of opportunity for the former Manchester United youth to show his ability, given what we have seen from him most recently under Wayne Rooney at Derby.

He appears the type to relish the big occasion so playing at Ibrox will certainly provide the platform for Tom Lawrence to prove himself and succeed in what should be the peak years of his career.
