Ipswich Town want to sign Rangers star Josh Windass to replace former Ibrox forward Martyn Waghorn, after he made the switch to Derby County on Wednesday, according to Football Insider.

Waghorn completed his move to Frank Lampard’s side yesterday afternoon for a reported £5m, leaving the Tractor Boys in need of a goalscoring replacement, with Windass high on their list.

Football Insider reckon they’ve already tabled a bid of £2m for the player, although manager Steven Gerrard isn’t keen on selling the player to Ipswich or anyone else.

Windass gets his fair share of criticism from supporters but in fact finished as the club’s joint top-scorer last season alongside Alfredo Morelos with 18 goals.

Letting that kind of contribution walk out the door for £2m would be silly business from the club, especially since he committed his future to Ibrox with a new contract in February. His deal doesn’t run out until the summer of 2021.

Unless the player is absolutely itching for a move south then any bids for him must be rejected today, with the English transfer window set to close earlier than in previous years.

Can we ensure that our squad is still intact by the end of the day?

Do you think Rangers should sell Josh Windass for £2m? Let us know in the comments…

  • He must go as He is desperate for a move out of Glasgow where Gers fans continually give him stick. Given your tight financial position it makes sense to sell and around 1 million would do for a player who is yet to prove himself at a better standard of football.

  • Difficult this one for me. Deep down I believe there’s a decent player, somewhere in him, just waiting to get out, but how long do we wait. I would hate for another Wagghorn scenario to happen and leave us looking like headless chickens again. I said this at the time when Wagghorn was leaving, and look now just he could be banging in the goals for us with a valuable sell on price, rather than the pittance we got for him. Time will tell ? ? ?

  • I would take the money for him, he’s not a fans favourite and he blows hot and cold, more worry for me is the lack of a decent striker, Morrellos is not great and is easily wound up as shown against Aberdeen recently.

  • I like windass and think he will get better under Gerrard gers fans are quite brutal the way they treat him and other players wag horn was an example a lot of the fans didn’t rate him and look at the price for him why didn’t we have a sell on fee for him so if we do sell windass not on the cheap look at Celtic they can sell player who are ordinary for great prices and always have sell on percentage written in its time to say we are rangers not a wee sell on club to the might off English clubs

  • I think if the price is right then let him go because he has not got the talent of a true Ranger , but we must make a profit.
