Ipswich Town want to sign Rangers star Josh Windass to replace former Ibrox forward Martyn Waghorn, after he made the switch to Derby County on Wednesday, according to Football Insider.

Waghorn completed his move to Frank Lampard’s side yesterday afternoon for a reported £5m, leaving the Tractor Boys in need of a goalscoring replacement, with Windass high on their list.

Football Insider reckon they’ve already tabled a bid of £2m for the player, although manager Steven Gerrard isn’t keen on selling the player to Ipswich or anyone else.

Windass gets his fair share of criticism from supporters but in fact finished as the club’s joint top-scorer last season alongside Alfredo Morelos with 18 goals.

Letting that kind of contribution walk out the door for £2m would be silly business from the club, especially since he committed his future to Ibrox with a new contract in February. His deal doesn’t run out until the summer of 2021.

Unless the player is absolutely itching for a move south then any bids for him must be rejected today, with the English transfer window set to close earlier than in previous years.

Can we ensure that our squad is still intact by the end of the day?
