Many of Steven Gerrard’s summer signings impressed. They’ve helped form the core of the new manager’s team, and individuals like Connor Goldson and Scott Arfield have become some of Scotland’s best players.

However, it hasn’t all gone quite so smoothly, with Umar Sadiq, in particular, struggling to make an impact for Rangers. Steven Gerrard has repeatedly called for him to up his game, but yet, whenever he has played, he hasn’t looked good enough.

Now, having spent the last few months in Scotland, it’s getting to the kind of time in which the forward is running out of time. In truth, it’s time for him to swim or sink at Ibrox.

Gerrard, though, needs to give him a chance, and though risky, it could work out well for the boss.

The former Liverpool man has already proven this season that he’s a fantastic man manager, and Sadiq has gained more talk than many of the players within the Rangers squad from Gerrard. He’s clearly looking to grow the player, and perhaps, after all this time, that may have finally had an impact. Few things will be as inspiring than a speech from Gerrard, and Sadiq has been a regular target of the Englishman.

Now, granted, Sadiq has hardly impressed when he’s played, but he’s made just 1 league appearance for Rangers. Is that really enough time to make a name for himself? Not all players are able to play for a few minutes and make an impact. Others need a run in the first team. Especially for a player of just 21-years-old, he’s going to need time. His minutes so far, perhaps, haven’t been an accurate representation of the sort of player that he really is.

Let’s not forget, he’s on loan at Rangers, and he’s looking to earn a permanent move, you’d expect. He’s got a point to prove beyond just making an impact for one season and he does deserve more of a chance.

Make no mistake, though, if he continues to struggle, chances should stop being given.
