Rangers forward Kyle Lafferty scored for Northern Ireland tonight to save them from an embarrassing defeat to Euro minnows the Faroe Islands.

Lafferty scored in the 76th minute after Faroes took a 60th minute lead through Holst. It was a great goal by Lafferty who skipped past three players at the edge of the box before exchanging a one-two with Brunt before hitting a low shot into the net.

The Rangers forward may have saved his team from an embarrassing defeat, but despite this, the draw is still a major blow to Northern Ireland’s qualifying hopes and now sit fourth in the group after three games.

Midfielder Steven Davis also started the match.

In other results for UK teams, England could only manager a 0-0 draw with Montenegro, while Wales were thrashed 4-1 by Switzerland.
