Last night, Kilmarnock were relegated to the Championship as their 28-year stay in the top flight came to an abrupt end.

Dundee secured a 1-2 win at Rugby Park, despite a consolation goal from Kyle Lafferty from the penalty spot – overall the Dens men recorded a 4-2 aggregate victory.

As well as Kyle Lafferty, there were a few other ex-Rangers players involved last night.

For Kilmarnock, Kirk Broadfoot and Chris Burke lined up, whilst Dundee had their skipper Charlie Adam with Jason Cummings on the bench.

From a Rangers perspective there will be little sympathy toward Kilmarnock for a few reasons, the main one being their plastic pitch.

Quite simply, the Premiership will be a better league for having two less artificial surfaces next season – following the relegation of Hamilton as well as Killie.

Up comes Hearts and Dundee, two decent clubs with proper football grounds and a significant support – that’s more like it.

Contrast

Rangers fans are generally a fair bunch, this can be reflected in the feelings and contrast toward the likes of Kyle Lafferty, compared to Kirk Broadfoot.

We don’t forget and ill feeling lingers for good reason, especially when there is no need for it.

Lafferty even fronted up to an angry gathering of Killie fans post-match last night, although he was far from culpable.

His eight Premiership goals gave them a fighting chance of survival, since his February arrival in Ayrshire.

Where was Broadfoot, where was the captain Gary Dicker?

Added to the above, was the unneccessary squabbles involving former manager and current Scotland boss Steve Clarke as well as chairman, Billy Bowie.

All things considered, beyond ordinary people at risk of job cuts, – the plight of Kilmarnock and their fate is their responsibility alone.

It will be interesting to see how many tickets they offer Rangers in the event of a cup draw, next season.

Bye bye, indeed.
