This afternoon it has been confirmed by the Colombian Football Association that Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos has received his maiden call-up by his country.

The 22-year-old has his doubters at Ibrox, but this season especially under new manager Steven Gerrard the forward appears to have gone from strength to strength and his form has been rewarded by his first senior inclusion.

He has been selected by Under 20 coach Arturo Reyes as senior coach Jose Pekerman remains in a contract dispute with the federation since the World Cup finals.

Reyes knows Morelos well having selected him at youth level previously so he’ll know what to expect from him and with six goals in ten games so far in 2018/19, this will no doubt do his confidence the world of good.

They face Venezuela in Miami on September 7 before facing Argentina in New Jersey four days later.

Let’s hope this doesn’t re-spark transfer rumours given the low ball offers French side Bordeaux were credited with previously.
