Dave King will forever be remembered fondly in Rangers history for what he did in 2015 and the subsequent years as part of our recovery, he lost countless millions that he knew he was never going to get back and yet continued to make sure that he was going to, not only leave the club in safe hands, but make sure that we were on the right track to being self sufficient and stronger than we have every been.

Since leaving though, there has been one issue that has annoyed King, he feels that Rangers relationship with Club 1872 is one that needs to be repaired so that there is a direct route for fans to air grievances with the board, as reported by The Glasgow Times.

“At regime change, the relationship between supporters and the Club was at an all-time low. I promised to change that – and it was changed.

“Club 1872 was a big part of that because it represented thousands of shareholders and, in turn, communicated with tens of thousands more.

“The Club’s unwarranted unilateral withdrawal from its relationship with Club 1872 has left supporters with no effective avenue to challenge the Club in situations where challenge is warranted.”

King still, of course, has a right to express his opinion on such matters because he is still a major shareholder but, as in 2015, times have changed and Club 1872 is miles away from being the supporters group that it was designed to be – the biggest problem is between the fans and the organisation, not between Rangers and Club 1872.

Who did GvB make his competitive Rangers debut against as a player?

The dream that King has of seeing Rangers fans own a deciding vote is still a reality, although it is one that may take longer than he initially expected.

Rangers are right to cut ties with Club 1872 at this moment in time given the infighting and disputes that are currently going on, they must first of all get their own house in order before they can even start to think about having a say in how our club is run – King is right on many things but on this one, I feel he doesn’t have his finger directly on the pulse.
