Rangers assistant manager Gary McAllister is looking for a cup final mentality from his players as the club prepare to fly out to Austria to face Rapid Vienna.

The Gers must pick up all three points in the UEFA Europa League clash or will exit the competition, making the tie essentially a knockout fixture in and of itself.

McAllister believes it will be a fantastic occasion and is hoping to see the Rangers squad rise to the challenge, not just for the benefits to the club, but Scottish football as a whole.

As quoted by The Scotsman, he said of the fixture:

What we’ve created is a cup final, isn’t it? There’s no other way to look at it and that’s going to be the approach.

It’s big for the club, the kudos that comes with it, for the fans as well and thinking ahead to the coefficient as well for Scottish football will be big. If both of us could get through, it would be a big night for Scottish football, no doubt about that and it’s a massive game.

I don’t how many tickets we’ve got, is it a couple of thousand, but I think there might be more there. It will be a great game to be involved in as a player.

After being starved of European progression for so long, fans are obviously massively excited about the match even if our recent league form hasn’t been inspiring.

To think we have gone from being knocked out by Progres last season to being on the brink of European football after Christmas this season is incredible.

We’ve had some massive results on the continent already this season but can we manage one more famous performance?
