Steven Gerrard must be a keen observer of all things Vital Rangers after surprising everyone with his starting line-up against Kilmarnock at the weekend, the answer to his lack of midfield creativity had been staring us all in the face but, rather than Ianis Hagi, the Gers gaffer shuffled his pack to good effect by giving Ryan Kent the freedom of Ibrox.

Although it might not strictly be true that he got the inspiration to play Kent in a more central role from keeping up to date with this site, by playing a more creative player rather than Scott Arfield in the absence of Joe Aribo, Rangers were able to penetrate the packed defence of the Ayrshire side with increasing regularity as the game wore on.

The £7.5million man is thriving under the increased responsibility that Gerrard has given him and the calmness of the finish for the Light Blues second goal epitomised his return to form and that he has assumed the mantel of the team’s talisman in the absence of Alfredo Morelos.

Can Gerrard's tactical shift be the key to breaking down packed defences?

Yes

No

No

With Leeds United rumoured to be returning with an improved offer for the former Liverpool youngster, a move to the bright lights of the Premier League is sure to be a tempting one, however, his relationship with the manager, importance to the club’s success and European football will hopefully ben enough to persuade him to stay.

There has never been any doubt that Gerrard has built a talented squad, it was mainly a case of finding a way to get the best out of them, with Rangers able to cruise to a comfortable victory against a normally awkward opponent, it would suggest that he has found the ‘missing spark” that has haunted him since the turn of the year.
