Glen Kamara will not feature in Rangers squad against Napoli having not made the trip to Italy.

The update was provided by Giovanni van Bronckhorst from the pre-match press conference on Tuesday evening ahead of the game tomorrow night.

It likely means a case of ‘as you were’ in the engine room for the Gers tomorrow night.

The Finland international’s last involvement came in the 4-0 win over St Mirren earlier this month, but a reported ankle injury is still preventing a return.

With other injuries to Ryan Jack and Tom Lawrence, it means that realistically Gio is left to choose between John Lundstram, Steven Davis, Scott Arfield and James Sands. Given Napoli’s strength, a three man effort should be deployed by the Gers in order to make the midfield as compact as possible as well as to prevent being run over – a tall order regardless of the set-up.

The Italians are seeking a club record 12th consecutive victory underlining their red hot form, in contrast to the underwhelming, turgid displays being churned out by Rangers at present. This is another clash on the big stage with the perfect chance for some of these players to make amends for the lows of recent weeks.

In particular, the opening half hour at Ibrox against Liverpool provides the template for what needs to be done but given what unfolded later in the same match, it also stands as a lesson that cannot be repeated. Rangers are ideally playing for a point but more than that they are in it for pride with the manager also running out of time to show that he can inspire this side when called upon.
