Rangers have been – loosely – linked with another right winger as we look to solve a problem as old as time, however, this one, is slightly different and potentially hints at a change of system for Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

Amad Diallo was signed in January to add another dimension to our attack but is only on loan until the end of the season with Scott Arfield and Joe Aribo capable of playing the role in their own unique way too but we still need a long-term solution and Fenerbahce’s Ferdi Kadioglu could well be the answer.

The 22-year old Dutch Under-21 international has dual citizenship and has recently pledged his allegiance to the Turkish national team, his club form suggesting that a call up might not be far away, without knowing much about the player, looking at his basic stats might not bring much excitement until you dig a little deeper.

He spent much of his teenage years as a number ten or winger but has transitioned into a wing-back capable of playing on either flank with analyst Patrick Caskie giving Vital Rangers a run down on what we could expect from the player:

“Highly rated and really versatile. Recently declared for the Turkish national team after a three-way tug of war with the Netherlands and Canada. Was a ten/winger when he made his debut but has moved back to wingback in three at the back formation. Can really play anywhere on the left side and right or as a ten as he has both technical and physical skill in abundance. For a free for Rangers you can’t do much better in my opinion.”

We have yet to see any major change in shape from Giovanni van Bronckhorst but we have the personnel to go to a 3-4-3, something that he has used before and would be perfect for interupting Celtic’s system in particular.

And that’s the deal clincher – he’s available on a pre-contract agreement. Players of his quality, age and profile are rarely available on free transfers, hopefully the Dutch connection could be enough to persuade him to move to Glasgow.
