Steven Gerrard looks set to reward one returning loan Ranger with a new contract as clubs begin to circle around one of his brightest talents.

Scotland Under-21 international, Josh McPake, was outstanding for Harrogate Town in the second half of last season and is now being monitored by clubs in the English Championship and closer to home with Motherwell.

The 19-year old is entering the last 12-months of his current Gers deal and as a result, the club are reportedly set to offer a three year extension to protect their investment and give McPake the opportunity to prove that he can make it in the first-team.

Football Insider claims that:

“Rangers have opened talks with Josh McPake over a new contract.

“The attacker, 19, is on the radar of a number of Scottish and EFL clubs following a successful loan spell at Harrogate Town last season.

“Ibrox sources have told Football Insider that the club are ready to offer McPake a new three-year contract.

“That would run until 2024 and replace his existing agreement, which expires next summer.

“The fresh terms would demonstrate Rangers’ faith in their academy product following the best few months of his young career.”

Encouraging news for a player who was given his first-team debut at 17 only to see a loan spell at Dundee last season fail to hit the heights that many expected, however, with his career back on track, the youngster can now focus on providing the sort of numbers that a Rangers forward needs – he has the talent, let’s hope he can reward the faith show in him by the management team.
