He capped off another fine display with a terrific goal but John Lundstram struck the right tone in his post-match assessment of the draw against Hearts.

The Scouser is showing with his performances on the pitch as well as his words that he is getting to grips with Scottish football and the particular demands at Ibrox.

He fronted up to Rangers TV after the game on Saturday and was asked if there were positives to take from what was mostly an encouraging showing, although undone by the late equaliser.

Lundstram was emphatic in his response, stating:

“Not really. In the first-half, fair enough we were good.”

“For me, I’m just disappointed because I feel like we need to be winning that game.”

“It was a top of the table clash and we’d have gone four points clear with a win – that’s just my opinion.”

“I’d rather play poor and win.”

Focus

That attitude is the drive and determination that is required.

Yes, Rangers were good, especially in the first half, but that elusive incisive instinct needs to be found to stave off further missed opportunities.

As for former Sheffield United man Lundstram, he is settling in nicely to the Rangers midfield and making his impact felt in an ‘enforcer’ role.

Spreading the play, recycling possession, biting into tackles and following up in attack – with a beauty of a goal to show for his efforts – were all components of his game on Saturday afternoon and he will be striving to maintain that level and to bring that performance into the Europa League arena on Thursday.

That’s leadership. More of the same, please.
