Declan John has said he’s hopeful of being passed fit for Friday’s clash with Hamilton Academicals.

The 22 year old loanee from Cardiff City picked up a calf injury in the League Cup quarter final against Partick Thistle and it kept him out of the Old Firm with Celtic last weekend.

Speaking to the Official Site as he met with the media this midweek ahead of the game, John revealed he had now overcome the problem so he was looking forward to winning his spot back in the first team but he knew that would be difficult.

‘I was really gutted to miss the game against Celtic last weekend but I am back training now hopefully to be fit for Friday. I have been training but it is up to the manager to pick the team so I am not really going to know. I thought first half we did quite well and second half we were slightly off the pace and they came forward strong.’

John went on to say.

‘To get two games within such a short space of time was a surprise because I hadn`t played for about four or five weeks before that. It is nice to get a little run in the team until Lee comes back fit. I thought in the cup game I was doing quite well and then to pick up the injury didn`t really help and missing that massive game against Celtic wasn`t good for me. Hopefully I will be able to play against them later in the season. At the end of the day it doesn`t matter what game it is to me as a person because you take each game as it comes and you don`t treat any game any different. I think the atmosphere, especially in the first 20 minutes was incredible. I haven`t really been involved in a game with an atmosphere like that before so I would definitely like to have featured in that one.’

The Welshman went on to say that work had already been done on the training ground when it came to Hamilton and Pedro Caixinha already had a plan in place to deal with the side who have lost three on the bounce.

Our aim will be to make that four obviously.

‘We had a meeting looking back at the game and stuff we could have done better but any other meeting has been looking ahead to Friday`s game. Going into the game on Friday there are things we look at attacking wise and defensively, we have been working on that in training this week and we will take it into Friday. I think if you look at the actual football we have played at times it has been pretty good. It is the difference in two boxes at the end of the day, trying to keep a clean sheet and trying to score goals when we get up the park as well. I think with anything it takes time, nothing comes easy or is straight forward. It is going to take time but we have a good group of boys here and I have settled in really well.’
