Declan John has been reflecting on his first career brace in the game against Hamilton Academicals on Friday evening.

With the hosts taking a one nil lead in the first minute of the game, John hit back twice before the 25th minute to turn the tie on its head and with further goals coming from Daniel Candeias and Graham Dorrans, Rangers took a much needed four one victory.

Speaking to the Official Site as he met with the media following the game, John was delighted with both goals as he more than knew how important they were for us on the day.

‘It was the first time for me! For the first goal, I cut inside and I`m not really one for scoring with my right foot either, so it was nice to grab that. The second one, I got a bit lucky with it going through the goalkeeper`s legs, but a goal is a goal at the end of the day. At the end of the day, you go into every game looking for a win, and we thought we could get that here tonight. It`s always good to break that barrier and score for your new club for the first time, and it puts you in good stead with the fans and with the club as well, so I was happy to get the two goals, and more importantly, the win as well.’

Having returned to the side for the game on Friday having been ruled out of the Celtic tie with an injury, John went on to say he was feeling the issue as the game drew to a close, but with the a small break now he felt he’d be raring to go when the fixtures return.

Rangers head to Canada to take on Benfica over the break.

‘The last 25 minutes I maybe started getting a bit tired, but we have a bit of a break now before we go to Canada. I think all the boys are together, and we showed that tonight. Even after going into the second half where we were down to ten men for a long period of time, we showed it there too. They (Benfica) are a big team, but we are too, and we`ll be looking to go out there and try to get the win.’
