Hibs manager Jack Ross has bemoaned the absence of his team’s fans at Ibrox today and stated that the Ibrox atmosphere will suffer as a consequence.

Due to the issue with restrictions and ‘red zone’ requirements, Rangers have not allocated away tickets for Premiership games this season.

Hearts and Motherwell have previously made formal contact with the SPFL asking them to find a resolution, with the former making an official complaint.

Now the Hibs boss has put across his perspective, adding further frustration to the debate.

The former Sunderland manager held his hands up stating they are helpless in the current situation but something has to change.

He suggested that the game at Ibrox will be a lesser occasion, with an impact on the atmosphere without the antagonism and rivalry that comes with the two sets of fans:

“It would have added to the whole occasion, the presence of a big Hibs support inside Ibrox would have heightened the atmosphere because there’s a rivalry between the clubs,” Ross offered.

He continued, “That is  intensified when we are both in the position we are – the motivation for both clubs would be to finish the weekend top of the table.”

“It’s unfortunate but there’s nothing we can do about it.”

Outcome

The lack of away fans for league games at Ibrox isn’t ideal, but the situation is unavoidable due to Rangers large number of season ticket holders.

With the ‘red zone’ for players and officials still in situ, the fans usually in the enclosure areas are having to be re-located in the normal away section in the Govan East corner.

There is no quick solution until such a time that the restrictions are removed.

The sooner away fans are back with the increased atmosphere and the competive edge, the better – that’s what football is all about.
