Ryan Jack has received a welcome return to the Scotland squad thanks to his fine performances over the last few weeks but the good news for the player can not be at Rangers expense.

Steve Clarke named his panel on Tuesday afternoon for the upcoming practice games against Poland and Wales with the former taking place of what should have been the World Cup play-off semi-final against Ukraine, postponed for obvious reasons.

Jack is the only Ranger involved this time with Jon McLaughlin missing out whilst recently departed Nathan Patterson is in the squad despite his lack of game time under Frank Lampard at Everton.

Recognition

Ryan Jack has won this call-up on merit and it is deserved but that doesn’t distract from Rangers being the priority.

If the player wishes to play for his country, he has every right to do so and to fully embrace the opportunity. With that comes a reality of the midfielder’s situation and his injury issues which will have to be managed by the Scotland staff, in conjuction with Rangers and the man himself. Over the course of the two friendlies, the 30-year old is kikely to get some game time with many players able to be used.

Until then, two very important games lie in wait for Rangers with Jack fully expected to play a key role thanks to his high standards shown recently with his worth to the team clearly demonstrated.
