Leon Balogun has extended his Rangers contract, meaning he will remain at Ibrox until the Summer of 2022.

The news was confirmed this afternoon on Rangers official channels and follows contract extensions for the likes of Allan McGregor, Steven Davis and James Tavernier.

The Berlin-born Nigerian international was said to be delighted to secure his short-term future and did not hesitate to put pen to paper.

Previously, VitalRangers wrote about a one-year option that the club had on the initial contract – regardless of that the matter has now been confirmed.

The former Brighton and Wigan man was quoted as saying:

β€œToday is a very happy day and a very proud day announcing my contract has been extended for another year.

β€œI am proud to be a part of this amazing club and I felt that pretty early on I had fallen in love with the club and the working environment, the way the players and the management staff work and the way the club is a big family, I am happy and proud that I can call myself a Rangers player.”

Leon Balogun has certainly played his part in Rangers Premiership success this season, as well as the Europa League campaign.

Given his significant experience and professionalism, this deal was hardly in doubt providing continuity and strength in depth for next season.

Now, the manager, sporting director and recruitment team can move on to the next matter on the list as the Gerrard era evolves further.
