If there is one thing we’ve learned since Ross Wilson came on board as our sporting director, is that he is capable of anything when it comes to negotiating for players.

Ianis Hagi îs one of European football’s most well known young players and yet Rangers managed to attract him on an initial loan deal with an option to buy, not only that, but the Gers transfer supremo then managed to get a million pound off the price tag to seal the deal last summer.

So, when news emerged that we are tracking one of Croatia’s hottest prospects on the verge of breaking into the senior national team, there is nobody I would rather have trying to broker a move than the former Southampton man.

Rangers will face tough opposition for Ivan Lepinjica, with Tottenham Hotspur said to be interested in the 21-year old defensive midfielder, however, Football Insider has claimed that we are first in the door with a loan-to-buy offer on the table.

“A recruitment source has told Football Insider that the door has opened for Rangers and they are keen on luring Lepinjica on an initial loan deal with an option to buy.

“That would enable Rangers to assess the Croatia Under-21s captain at close quarters for a season while reducing their financial burden.”

We have recent experience of two such deals going in very different directions, Hagi showed glimpses of magic in his initial couple of months, whereas Bongani Zungu didn’t do enough to justify the agreed £2.7million fee, that’s not to say he isn’t a good player, just not at that price and not for us.

How many players do Rangers have at the Euros this summer?

Lepinjica is very much one to watch and if Rangers can get their noses in front, it could make us a lot of money in the long run, after all, we’ve not got a bad history with Croatians.
