Rangers defender Joe Worrall has made it clear he doesn’t see his career at Ibrox as a long-term relationship, speaking to The Herald this weekend.

Steven Gerrard went on the record in September stating his desire to make a permanent move for the Nottingham Forest loanee, but the player sees the situation differently and will be heading back to England at the end of the season.

As quoted by The Herald, Worrall said of a potential permanent stay:

It’s obviously nice that the manager says things like that, but I’m on loan from Forest.

Forest is my team, they employ me and pay my wages. It’s a loan for me. I’m really enjoying it here, and I thank the gaffer for playing me in the games.

I’m here until the end of the season, so hopefully you’ll see a lot more from me and what I can do.

Worrall’s performances have lacked consistency since joining in the summer transfer window. At times he’s looked solid and confident in the Gers backline and on other occasions looks below the standard needed.

There’s been plenty of criticism from fans for some of his displays.

The fact he is still only 21 years of age plays a factor in that and it’s clear he has potential, but it looks like Rangers won’t get to see any of that beyond the 2018/19 season.

Is it time to start playing Nikola Katic again in his place?
