It’s fair to say that Rangers’ tie with Villareal this evening is huge. A win will put us in a commanding position in the Europa League, and that could have a huge impact on the rest of our season. Not only would it, obviously, increase our chances of progression, but it would also have a huge impact on the mindset of the players.
Progression would be a huge mental boost, and at this stage of the season, whilst we’re not directly competing for any major trophies at this time, that’s all Steven Gerrard can be aiming for.
Fortunately, ahead of the game, there is an early positive for the Gers to consider. We’ve enjoyed some brilliant form at Ibrox as of late, and that bodes well for us.
Rangers host Villarreal tonight in the Europa League. The Gers are unbeaten in their last 17 competitive home games, a run stretching back to April.
They’ve scored ten goals in their previous two alone.

Clearly, our famous home is turning into quite a tough place for teams to visit, and our recent form, in particular, has made it even more deadly.
Obviously, Villareal aren’t going to be an easy side to beat, and so any sort of mental edge will be important. Knowing this stat will likely give the players confidence that they’re on a good run on home turf – and that they can make it even better tonight.
Thoughts?
