It wouldn’t be hyperbolic to suggest that Rangers supporters are finally expecting some real success this season. After a few seasons of relative disappointment, the Gers are on the up this season, and Steven Gerrard has enjoyed quite the run of form at the helm.

European success, in particular, has been exciting to witness. Though our domestic form was inconsistent earlier this season, we’ve been looking good in Europe generally, and that bodes well for us. It’s been a long time since we’ve had a European title charge, but could this year be our year?

Well, former Rangers man Sasa Papac certainly thinks that there is a chance.

According to the Daily Record, he said: “It is hard to say how they will go [in Europe]. In 2008, we didn’t know that we were going to make it to the final. We just played from game to game and grew up with every match. We weren’t the favourites in many of the games and just tried to do our best job in every match”.

He continued: “Of course Rangers can get back to where they were in my time…If Stevie Gerrard stays here, I think there will be progress in future. It can be soon. I think it is possible”.

As you likely know, Papac was a part of the team that went to the final of the competition back in 2008, and whilst that day ended in heartbreak, we’ve still got some very fond memories of the clash and the games leading into it. Who could ever forget our games against Werder Bremen or Sporting?

Make no mistake, Rangers have done well this season, and as Papac says, success is certainly possible in the future. Whether that happens this season remains to be seen, but the foundations are certainly being placed.

One thing’s for sure – the Ibrox faithful will be willing the Gers on every step of the way.
