Three of the Rangers players caught up in the recent Covid protocol breach have issued an apology to the supporters of the club.

As senior players, Nathan Patterson, Bongani Zungu and Calvin Bassey have been made to face the consequences of their actions which is only fair – such is the responsibility that comes with the honour of representing Rangers, especially this season.

This update came alongside a statement issued on the official Rangers website this afternoon, which included:

“Over the course of the last week, we have both ensured that all our players understand our expectations when you are part of this great club.”

“The players involved have been left in no uncertain terms as to the standards that everyone here is expected to adhere to.”

“It has been an extremely difficult week for those players following their admission of an error of judgement whilst dealing with the consequences of their actions.”

The first-team squad players have now returned to Auchenhowie.”

“We are both now satisfied that the players completely understand their obligations to our club and accept with sincerity the strong disciplinary sanctions that we have imposed upon them for letting us all down.”

“We accept their apologies to the club, their team mates and the fans, for whom we are forever grateful for their resolute support and loyalty.”

The full statement can be read at the link above.

A video was also released showing an update to fans from Patterson, Zungu and Bassey but strangely (at the time of writing), it has only been made available to Rangers TV subscribers and not to the tens of thousands of Rangers season ticket holders.

The update has only been included on the Rangers website, with no trace so far on the club’s social media channels.

The crucial takeaway from this development is that it appears the trio will now be available for selection having returned to the squad in return for what was described above as ‘strong disciplinary sanctions’ likely to be related to fines.

A lot more will be revealed with the squad news for tomorrow’s game against Royal Antwerp.
