Following the departure of Adam Owen’s to Sheffield United, Rangers have appointed Jim Henry to the role of Head of Sports Science.

He joined the club at the start of the week and comes with plenty of Premiership experience.

He began working in football in 1996 and had almost four years at Aston Villa as their first team fitness coach. He also worked at Sunderland as their Head of Athletic Performance and he’s even a former Scottish judo international, so good luck to the players if they want to disagree with him.

Speaking to the Official Site Ally McCoist said of his old friend – very old friend in fact.

‘Jim has joined the coaching staff and I have no doubt he’ll be a huge success. His expertise will undoubtedly help the players prepare for the challenges ahead.’

McCoist says that so far this week Jim has enjoyed working with the players and they have been receptive towards him and his style and he’s working flat out to get them in peak condition for the season ahead. Pleasingly for Ally though, the contrast with our preparations last summer which everybody describes as inadequate, should mean we start the season with a lot more focus this time round.

‘His experience and knowledge is second to none and we all look forward to working with him on a daily basis.’
