Steven Gerrard has defended Eros Grezda’s first full start for the club after a frustrating performance away to St Mirren on Saturday.

The Albanian international had only appeared from the bench prior to the trip to Paisley but was trusted by the manager from the start in the Scottish Premiership clash.

He was substituted off early in the second half though, with many fans left disappointed with his display.

Gerrard though is hoping for a bit of patience, stating he was satisfied with the player’s performance.

As quoted by Sky Sports, the Gers boss said:

I thought he grew into the game. His best moments were probably the last five minutes he had.

He hit the post and had he scored it would have helped him a lot. He’s had a bad injury and a tough time getting back. He will get better.

Grezda’s £2m price tag has undoubtedly put a bit of pressure on his shoulders, especially when so many cheap and loan signings are currently impressing in Gerrard’s starting eleven.

Hopefully he can start showing the kind of skill that alerted Rangers scouts, contributing the goals and assists he was signed for.
