Rangers midfielder Ross McCrorie was excellent against St Johnstone on Sunday, leaving both fans and his manager delighted.

The 20-year-old was making just his fourth start under Steven Gerrard, with many of his early season performances failing to live up to the standards he set as a rookie last term.

However, his display against our visitors yesterday was faultless, finally proving to the Rangers boss why he earned such rave reviews in 2017/18.

On a day when attacking talent stole the headlines, his all-round defensive display in midfield and adaptation to the right-back role in James Tavernier’s absence after an hour won plaudits from many supporters.

Hopefully he now features more regularly from the start of matches in the weeks and months ahead. There’s surely no better than Gerrard to learn from when it comes to developing as a midfielder.
