Josh Windass rounded off a good week on a personal level for himself at Rangers as he hit a hattrick in the weekend’s clash with Hamilton Academical.

Having secured a new contract extension and put pen to paper on that earlier in the week, the game at New Douglas Park saw him find the net in minutes 19, 34 and 72 to register his second club hattrick following his arrival at Ibrox.

Speaking to the Official Site following the full time whistle in the game, Windass was pleased to have more than played his part in securing all three points from the tricky tie and he knew it was a good way for him to have celebrated his new deal.

‘It`s obviously been a good week, getting rewarded with a new contract and to come and get three goals today was a bonus. I`m playing in the position now that the club signed me from initially. It was disappointing to not have been playing in that for a long time, but I`m there now and I`m happy and getting good service from the lads.’

Having bagged himself the three goals, Windass was also quick to pay tribute to the side for their contribution in his goals.

‘I`m enjoying it and it definitely helps when you are getting balls like the one from Alfredo Morelos and Jamie Murphy`s set up in the first half. They were great passes and they made them easy finishes. We have a lot of pace, with me Daniel, Jamie and Alfredo, which means we can always hurt teams even when we are not maybe having the greatest of games. We still have that pace and when we are on our game we are a really good front four.’

With six goals being scored in the opening 45 minutes, Windass didn’t dodge the fact that there was good and bad to our performance and clearly improvements still need to be made as we aren’t taking to the pitch to entertain the neutrals.

‘It was disappointing to be honest. We gave away sloppy goals and I think that if we were playing against a better team in the first half we might have been beaten. We need to improve on that now because we are taking on a Hearts team next week who are really resolute, and we have to play better than we did today to get that three points.’

With 15 goals to his name so far this season and sitting in second place in the scoring charts one behind Alfredo Morelos, Windass was happy with his contribution, but he was particularly pleased with his second on the day.

‘The second goal I scored was my favourite because of the pass from Jamie Murphy. I didn`t think that he`d actually seen me, so I just ran into the box and it was an unbelievable little pass and an easy finish.’

The win does move us back into second place in the Premiership table and we sit there ahead of Aberdeen based on goal difference, and Windass hopes we can now consolidate that position moving forward.

‘That`s the aim, we`ve done it a couple of times and not been able to sustain it, so hopefully we can do that and sustain it now.’
