Dylan McGeouch says his Aberdeen team didn’t get what they derserved last time out against Rangers and this time they want more.

On that occasion, Steven Gerrard’s penultimate game at Ibrox, the champions were very poor and a sleepwalking first half almost resulted in the visitors having the game wrapped up. Thankfully, Alfredo Morelos pulled one back very soon after Scott Brown had put the Dons 2-0 up – all before the 20 minute mark.

In the end, a late James Tavernier penalty secured a draw.

Looking back, Aberdeen’s Dylan McGeough expressed their frustration, as reported by Football Scotland:

“We were really unlucky not to get the three points, that gives us confidence.”

“It was frustrating we didn’t win, we were disappointed afterwards and that shows how well we did.”

“The penalty they got was a bit soft so we felt hard done by and hopefully this time we can go a step further and get three points.”

“Rangers have changed manager and when that happens they stamp how they want to play on it.”

“We have done our homework on them, hopefully we can use our game plan well.”

Change

The bad news for the former Rangers trainee and everyone else at Pittodrie is that their visitors tonight are a much different animal, compared to the meek team that laboured back in October.

As he acknowledged, they face a much different test thanks to the impact of Gio van Bronckhorst and his coaching team who themselves, will have a first encounter of a Scottish football classic in the heat of this game, as experienced by the boss in his playing days.

It is great that the fans are back in to make for a proper spectacle, it feels like a long time since that has been the case for this fixture.

With excitement and anticipation building, we should be in for a cracker tonight and even with home advantage, Aberdeen are unlikely to have the attrition that they gained during that 2-2 stalemate last time out. In the first game since the Winter break, all eyes are on what Rangers do to secure the three points to maintain the exisiting lead at the top of the table.
