Rangers fans are excited about potentially signing Rennes defender Mexer this summer.
Speculation is growing about a switch to Ibrox for the Ligue 1 stopper, with The Daily Record reporting that manager Steven Gerrard has been pictured meeting with the 30-year-old on a scouting mission to France last week.
With other clubs such as Bordeaux and Nantes said to be interested in the soon to be out of contract player, convincing him his future lies at Ibrox could be a real transfer coup this summer.
Mexer has fantastic experience in the French and Portuguese top-flights and looks exactly like the kind of player we should be looking to add to the first-team squad ahead of the new season.
He hit the headlines last week when his French Cup Final goal helped Rennes sink Paris Saint-Germain and lift the trophy.
Considering Joe Worrall is heading back to Nottingham Forest and Gareth McAuley’s contract is expiring then we badly need some defensive reinforcements to support Connor Goldson and Nikola Katic.
Supporters would love to see the club clinch a deal, taking to Twitter to share their thoughts this week…
Apparently Mexer is close! Looks a real classy player, Dominant in the air & great with the ball at his feet. But.. we all know things can look very different in Glasgow. I worry for Katic if this is sealed

Last time I watched a 5 min YouTube clip of a player I could hardly believe we were getting this class act for £50k – step up Glenn Kamara who has proved as good if not better. Now I watch Mexer and he also looks the real deal on a free…

Even though he’s 30, I have a feeling Edson Mexer is gonna stroll the league.
A physical league, a physical centre back. The perfect environment for him.

If the rumours are true about that boy Mexer signing then I cany believe the spine of our team next season will be him, James Milner & Danny Welbeck. Sounds lovely x

Mexer would be a major coup by the club.
Not going to pretend I’ve seen him play but to tempt a starter for Rennes away from them to us is a great accomplishment and step in the right direction— gordy (@weepaljoe_) May 7, 2019
Brilliant business if true. Mexer is exactly the type of player we should be after. 100+ games in the French league and an experienced international. Also very happy with the Kent deal. Guy is gonna be a big player for us in the next few years
