In what is a welcome relief, there will be no industrial strike action affecting the Glasgow Subway system for Rangers supporters ahead of games at Ibrox this month as things stand.
The strike action was planned for tomorrow, Saturday 6 August as well as three further dates in the coming weeks when Rangers are playing at home, on Tuesday when Rangers play USG in the return Champions League qualifier, on Saturday 13 August v St Johnstone as well as Saturday 27 August, when Ross County come to Glasgow.
SPT staff had agreed to take the action due to pressures on shift schedules and enforced changes, but it has been halted for now.
A report in the Scottish Daily Express included a quote from Willie Thomson, Unite union industrial officer:
“Positive negotiations have led to the suspension of strike action. Unite members will soon be balloted on an improved proposal from SPT.”

Two hours prior to any Rangers home game, the underground system in Glasgow is extremely busy. The old network with its condensed carriages results in a tight squeeze due to the sheer numbers heading for the stadium with the situation worse for midweek games with others commuting after work.
The thought of everyone having to pile onto the roads if the strikes had gone ahead wouldn’t have been pretty so it is a big relief that the orange trains will keep on moving.
Give yourself time on the underground if you want to avoid the queues and the worst of the rush, before and after the game.
