A large proportion of Rangers supporters would love to see Steven Gerrard give a first team opportunity to 19-year-old midfielder Liam Burt this season, after he signed a new one-year deal with the club last week.

Burt spent the second half of the 2017/18 campaign on loan in the Scottish Championship with Dumbarton, returning from a long-term injury that had halted his progress in the Rangers set-up,

Signing a new contract last week though, he now has another 12 months to prove that he has what it takes to make it at Ibrox, years after initially making his debut at the age of 17.

Competition for first team places will be fierce next term, especially in midfield, with Gerrard already making a number of signings that have made it tougher for existing players at the club to make the grade.

A loan option could be viable then, but the majority of fans appear to want to see him get a chance in Gerrard’s matchday squads with 52% of respondents to a poll we published last week preferring that option to sending him out again on a temporary basis.

Can Burt show he has the potential to shine for the Gers?
