If ever there was the perfect example of the standard of the Scottish mainstream media it was with an article in Tuesday’s Scottish Sun about potential Rangers transfer targets.

The paper claimed that we were looking at a group of potential names for the troublesome right-wing role, Vital Rangers favourite Akinkunmi Amoo, Brian Ocampo, Robert Muric and Kiril Despodov.

There was just one problem with this “list”, they were players that Patrick Caskie, a Rangers supporting analyst, had suggested we should be looking at, somehow, the tweet and analysis of the players had been picked up in Despodov’s homeland Bulgaria by Tema Sport and the story grew arms and legs from there.

From which country does Dundee United keeper Benjamin Siegrist come from?

Patrick has provided visuals and graphics for Vital Rangers in the past so that targets can be compared with current players or to find out what they might bring to the side but it is nothing more than that – information on a player who could do a job for us, that a national media outlet has published the story without doing any research shows exactly where we are just now.

As we’ve seen over the last few weeks, independent fan media sites and podcasts are the place to go to for your Rangers rumours, ironically, we’re the ones that are scoffed at by hard hitting “professional” journalists, maybe they should stop worrying about us and have a long, hard look in the mirror.
