Giovanni van Bronckhorst has stated that he feels his squad is read and equipped to deal with the challenges to come this season.

The competitive action kicks off at noon on Saturday in West Lothian against Livingston, with the European curtain-raiser set to follow just days later against Union Saint-Gilloise in Belgium.

One of the main issues for his side last season was the lack of goals but that matter appears to now have been addressed with the addition of four first team attackers. The evidence will need to follow, of course.

Antonio Colak, Tom Lawrence, Rabbi Matondo and Malik Tillman have landed at Ibrox to play in the team and given their background, they all have plenty to offer. Only Tillman is yet to get fully into his stride with minutes on the pitch but the others have already shown a glimpse of what is to come, across the pre-season games.

There is an expectation that significant goals will be shared and created with that quartet, as well as providing the manager with depth in attack.

GvB was talking to Sky Sports News (screened on Thursday 28/7):

“I think we have good players in, and the qualities they possess we can play many ways, depending on the opponent, how defensively they will play.”

“I think we have enough qualities in the squad to rotate and make sure we have the best line-up against the opponent we are facing.”

Another long season on four fronts is set to follow once again and as good as the last campaign was, Rangers were caught-out in terms of the striker shortage.

That can’t be allowed to happen again but already the strength in numbers will benefit Rangers as well as the potential of some further transfer  activity to come.
