Giovanni van Bronckhorst was absolutely sure of his decision not to introduce Alfredo Morelos late in the game as Rangers and PSV shared an entertaining four goal draw at Ibrox.

The Champions League Playoff will now be decided in Eindhoven next week, following the widely recognised ‘fair result’ on Tuesday night.

Both sides showed quality at times, as well as sloppiness in their play which will need to be eradicated for the return leg. PSV will go into the game as favourites given that they are playing in front of their supporters but it is still all to play for, despite the cliche. It really is up for grabs.

Rangers took a fortunate lead on the 70 minute mark after Walter Benitez made an absolute mess of Tom Lawrence’s long range free kick. In the next few minutes there was a possibility for the Gers to turn the screw but they were unable to push on and ultimately, the visitors made it 2-2 on 78 minutes.

What about Alfredo Morelos?

Whilst the Colombian is not yet fully match fit, there was an expectation from many fans that he would be introduced in the second half as has been the case in recent games.

This is not a slight on Antonio Colak who was very productive and had arguably his best game ‘off the ball’ as well as his main impact, that fine first half strike to finish off a great team move involving Steven Davis and James Tavernier. Another game, another goal for the penalty box poacher.

There was a vulnerability about PSV’s defence and Morelos would obviously have lifted the crowd as well as providing strength up top. It was not to be as decided by Gio who later told BT Sport of his satisfaction with Colak, “For me that was not a point that I should change” was the verdict on the suggestion of replacing the Croatian with the club’s record European goalscorer.
