Interest in former Gers academy kid Billy Gilmour is hotting up with the list of teams hoping to borrow him for a year likely to be growing by the day.

Rangers, according to Football Insider, are said to be one of those teams and if Steven Gerrard is competing with mid-table Premier League also-rans, his former England team-mate, Paul Robinson, believes that we are in pole position to get any potential deal over the line:

“Rangers are a more attractive proposition than a mid-table Premier League side at the moment.

“They are playing in the Champions League and will be competing for every domestic honour next year.

“To learn under Steven Gerrard and Gary McAllister, as a midfielder, would be invaluable.

“What those two have done at Rangers over the past two years has been amazing. What better place to be? He would enjoy his football up there, Rangers would be amazing.

“He would get a lot of the ball and they would be winning most weeks.

“If he goes on loan to a mid-table Premier League side he would not be playing in Europe every week. I think Rangers would be the ideal move to further his progression.”

Of all the players we have been linked with – even on just a season long loan – he is the one that I would be most excited about, we’ve seen how impressive he is on the biggest stage for Chelsea and his 20 minute cameo for Scotland, albeit against Luxembourg, shows that he fears nothing.

How many players do Rangers have at the Euros this summer?

Robinson is right, he’d be learning off a coaching staff with a track record of improving players, specifically midfielders, and it would be more beneficial having the expectancy of winning to cope with every week rather than for a side where a draw is acceptable – as the former England man says, “what better place to be?”.
