The saga surrounding the administration of Rangers and subsequent takeover of the club by Charles Green continues to rumble on.

The Herald has reported that the Scottish Government is now being asked to step in and assess the possibility of appointing a judge from outside of Scotland to deal with the inquiry into the wrongful prosecutions of Duff and Phelps administrators, David Whitehouse and Paul Clark.

First minister, Nicola Sturgeon, was asked if outside help was a possibility and she said:

“Yes, I think there is an argument for that, but these decisions have got to be taken in the proper way, in the proper time.

“We’re committed to this. Of course the Crown Office in prosecution matters acts entirely independently of ministers.

“It’s important that there is a remit for this inquiry and it is led by a judge that commands confidence.

“That’s in the interests of everyone, and we will take these decisions once the proceedings have concluded.”

The battle between the administrators and BDO – the liquidators of the club – is still ongoing, with BDO claiming that Duff and Phelps acted inappropriately when they sold the club to Green, assets including Ibrox, the Auchenhowie training facility and a playing squad full of internationals were valued at a little over £5million, when in reality they were worth tens of millions more.

How many players do Rangers have at the Euros this summer?

The whole debacle was a farce and anyone could see that Rangers were treated differently from any other club that has had the misfortune of being in the same circumstance – will we ever, truly, know the truth? Don’t hold your breath.
