With the Rangers AGM suggesting that Michael Beale is about to be backed in the January transfer market, one area where we could see money spent is bringing in players who are available on pre-contract agreements early.
Top of the list has to be a midfielder and Nicolas Raskin is one that continues to be linked with a move to Ibrox, Belgiam media outlet Le Soir claiming that we are still interested in the youth international.
The 21-year old is currently at Standard Liege and is approaching the last six-months of his contract with The Daily Record reporting that they are getting desperate in their attempts to keep him at the club:
“Director of Football Fergal Harkin has reportedly jetted out to the club’s winter training camp in Marbella for crunch talks with Raskin with the former Manchester City transfer guru desperate to get a final answer on the latest terms.”
Raskin ticks an awful lot of boxes in terms of what we need in midfield in terms of ability, flexibility, age, and contact status, it is also a market that Ross Wilson knows well, given the length of time that we have been linked with him, it would be more of a surprise if we don’t sign him, however, like Danilho Doekhi, if an offer comes from a top five league, we might be up against it.
Nobody expects Beale to win the title this season which, at least, buys him some time to get things right, however, this doesn’t mean that the board should write this season off and it would give us a much better chance of success next season if most of the key components of the new manager’s squad are already in place and bedded in.
We have seen with Ridvan Yilmaz that talented players can take time to adjust to a new environment, after all, they are only human regardless of how much they are paid.
Get quality players in, and get them in early.
