Rangers look set to improve their offer for Kilmarnock striker Kris Boyd.

The Gers had made a written offer of £250,000 for the player who is out of contract in the summer and could join then for free but Alex McLeish wants him before then and the £250,000 offer was made but Kilmarnock have turned this down and now Rangers want to improve the offer.

Kilmarnock accepted an offer of £500,000 from Sheffield Wednesday but Boyd is not willing to move to the struggling Championship side at this stage of his career, especially as the club could be playing League 1 football next season.

Cardiff are also said to still be interested and even though they are pushing for a play-off place in the Championship Boyd has his heart set on a move to his boyhood heroes Rangers.

McLeish is desperate to sign Boyd in time for the Scottish Cup third round and UEFA Champions League knockout stage and it’s thought that Rangers will up their offer to £450,000.

Kilmarnock would be mad to turn that offer down as they could lose him for nothing in the summer and badly need the money to keep the club afloat.

Boyd 22, who has came through the Kilmarnock youth set up has scored 17 goals for the Ayrshire side this season and his form has seen him called up to the Scottish future’s side. He seems to be scoring goals for fun and Rangers badly need more fire power up front.
