This weekend is the first chance for Rangers to be crowned officially as champions of Scotland, for the first time since 2011.

First of all, the Champions-elect need to go out and secure a home win against St. Mirren at Ibrox.

Then it’s out of their hands with needing Celtic to fail to collect three points at Tannadice on Sunday.

Whatever will be, will be.

In the event that Mickey Mellon’s side take at least a share of the points, could we see some scenes of celebration from Rangers Auchenhowie training base?

Given that the fans are already restricted in how they can celebrate the imminent and hugely aticipated title win, the players will want to maximise the moment if it is to be done without them on the pitch.

Perhaps the manager will want to gather his group on Sunday at lunchtime to start preparations for the crucial Europa League Last 16 tie against Slavia Prague next week?

This would co-incide with the final stages of the game in Dundee.

At the press conference earlier today, ahead of the St. Mirren game tomorrow, Gerrard was pragmatic, stating that he just wants it to be done as quickly as possible – to get over that line:

“I don’t think you can choose sometimes (on where and when the title will be won). It’s out of our control.”

“The important thing as a group is to just keep winning football matches and it will happen when it happens. I totally respect that some fans might want to win it this way or that way but I don’t think anyone will be actually complaining when we get this over the line.”

β€œThe important thing is to get that trophy back, get 55, knock all the 54’s off the walls – that’s the main thing for me, to add to the wonderful history of this club.”

“If it happens on Sunday in April or May, I don’t care so long as it happens.”

“For me the important thing is getting three points. It’s obviously then 99.99 per cent done.”

The Ibrox boss was probed on if he had made plans for Sunday but was very coy with his response, adding with a smile:

“Yes, but I’ve never told you any of my plans before and I don’t intend to tell you my plans moving forward.”

A light Sunday session is the least that this Rangers team and the full backroom staff deserve.

First of all, three vital points to be secured at fortress Ibrox.
