Rangers have announced this afternoon that rising star Nathan Patterson has signed a new contract to tie him to the club to 2024.

The intended heir to captain James Tavernier’s right full back slot, has impressed and progressed to earn himself extended terms in what will be a welcome announcement for all at the club including the fans.

His second half display on Saturday against Ross County was another bright glimpse of what lies ahead in the hope that Patterson can unlock his full potential in a Rangers shirt. 

The club statement read,Rangers Football Club are today delighted to announce Nathan Patterson has signed a long-term extension to his current contract.”

“He signed up until summer 2022 back in December 2019, but has today penned a two-year addition to that, meaning the boyhood Rangers supporter has committed his future to the club to the summer of 2024.”

“This season, he has made four appearances, including a European start in Poznan in the Europa League, and also on Saturday as a substitute as Gers ran out 5-0 winners over Ross County.”

“Despite only being 19, he has progressed to the Scotland under-21 squad this season, making four appearances from September onwards for them.”

Progress

Manager Steven Gerrard said, “We have monitored Nathan’s progress closely over the past 18 months. His attitude is second to none, and I am particularly pleased with his desire to learn from his team mates especially our captain, James Tavernier.”

“Ross and I have discussed our plan with Nathan for the incoming 18 months and have made our expectations clear. Nathan is a strong example of our player pathway for those who are training with the first-team and in our Academy.”

Sporting Director, Ross Wilson added, “We are delighted with Nathan’s development. He is training really well, working diligently and showing strong progress.”

“Aside from his technical and tactical work he has made significant physical gains working with our sports science performance staff. He’s made a strong impression on Steven and the staff in training and when he’s played in the team.”

This is great news for the young player who will be striving to get as many minutes as possible to build up his experience and development as he further settles in to senior football at Ibrox.
