A Rangers internet Fans Forum has been closed down after an alleged death threat was made to Neil Lennon. A cartoon showed Neil Lennon being hanged with the words ‘HANG NEIL LENNON’.

Follow Follow, a Rangers fanzine banned three of it’s members as soon as it was brought to their attention but Footy Mad who host the site have decided to act by removing the forum while it investigates. The Celtic forum ‘Come On The Hoops’ has also been closed pending the investigation.

A message has appeared on both websites stating that the Rangers and Celtic messageboards were taken offline yesterday evening due to the persistent breach of the terms and conditions of use by users and also stated that the future of the boards is under review.

Lennon has been a controversial figure since signing for Celtic in 2000. He was the first high profile catholic player to play for Northern Ireland and eventually quit after receiving death threats.

He has wound the Rangers fans up in the past by smoking a fake cigar after a Celtic victory at Ibrox and only a couple of months ago he was very lucky to escape a lengthy ban after attacking a linesman after an old firm game, also at Ibrox which Celtic lost.

There is obviously no love lost between the player and the Rangers fans although decent fans are the ones who will lose out by the messageboard being closed down.

It’s a minority who have let the Rangers support down by doing this and it is also claimed that two of the banned members were Celtic fans posing as Rangers fans. No one would condone behaviour like this but decent fans shouldn’t have to lose out.
