Rangers have been drawn against Spanish side Villarreal in the last 16 of the Champions League.

It’s the draw that many people were hoping for and it means Rangers avoided the big guns like Barcelona, AC Milan, Juventus, Arsenal and Livepool.

The Rangers v Villarreal tie was the last one to be drawn out of the hat and although Villrreal are formidable opposition, it’s probably the draw that gives Rangers the best chance of progressing to the quarter-finals.

Villarreal topped Group D ahead of Benfica, Lille and Manchester Utd. They also put Everton out in the qualifying round and recently played Celtic in UEFA Cup competition.

The first leg will be played at Ibrox on February 21 or 22 with the return in Villarreal on March 7 or 8.

The full draw is as follows:

Chelsea v Barcelona
Real Madrid v Arsenal
Werder Bremen v Juventus
AC Milan v Bayern Munich
PSV Eindhoven v Lyon
Ajax v Internazionale
Benfica v Liverpool
Villarreal v Rangers
